Narrative structure as a feedback system
Applies cross-system synthesis to the craft and impact of writing. Narrative is modelled as a feedback network: reader clarity, tension, and engagement are interdependent nodes. We develop a Reader-First framework that helps authors understand how structural choices propagate through the reading experience — and where interventions have the highest leverage.
Research questions
- How do reinforcing and balancing feedback loops manifest in effective narrative structure?
- Can system-level analysis predict reader drop-off, confusion, or emotional disengagement?
- What is the optimal tension-clarity trade-off for different reader objectives?
How AI is used
AI assists in generating structural critiques of narrative drafts, suggesting rebalancing interventions, and mapping text passages to feedback graph nodes.
